Citizens of the United States regard China and Japan in Asia is more important than European countries. Both countries are considered more advantageous to boost the U.S. economy than the European Union countries put together.
This is contained in the latest The Transatlantic Trends survey, quoted by news agency Reuters, 14 September 2011. Based on the results of the survey, 51 percent of Americans feel the Asian countries is more important for them than the European Union. As many as 38 percent of the remaining assume otherwise.
Bruce Stokes, a researcher from the institute thing tank German Marshall (GM) for the U.S. release of this survey, said the focus of America is currently seeking new business opportunities in markets emerging Asian economies. European countries mostly not considered as partners, but as a strong competitor.
"What they see on TV? Advancement of China, India and Europe. Now living where the public will side with the U.S.?" Stokes said.
The results of this survey is different from a similar survey conducted a few years ago. In 2004, 54 percent of Americans think Europe is more important to their economy. Only 29 percent of residents in favor of Asia.
The Transatlantic Trends survey conducted in May and June in the U.S. and Europe regarding international relations, economics and other issues. Although regarded as economic partners, but as much as 63 percent of Americans think China is a threat.
